The Schreiber High School Guidance Department and the Athletic Association of Port Washington are co-sponsoring a seminar for student athletes on Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. All students interested in pursuing athletics in college are invited to attend with at least one of their parents.
Featured speakers will be Pat Grecco, director of College Bound Player Programs and Long Island Junior Soccer League and Michael Secko. They will deal with issues that the high school athlete faces in the college planning process, including an overview of how athletics can help with college admissions and how to find the school that is right for them. Ms. Grecco will also tell athletes how to get a college coach to see them play.
"This program will educate student athletes about what they have to do to pursue athletic opportunities in college," said AAPW President Tricia Quirk. "When the time comes for college applications, it is too late to find out important information - the student has to be part of the process from early on, along with the parents and guidance counselor." In addition to using their team participation to help them get a competitive edge during the college admissions process, program participants will learn about athletic scholarships.
