51 Birch Street, a documentary film written, directed, and starring Doug Block, is a riveting journey of a son's discovery that his parents' 53-year marriage was surprisingly disconnected and filled with much disappointment. As longtime residents of Port Washington, we probably would have seen this film, even if it had not gotten good reviews because Doug Block was born and raised here; however, this film is both intriguing and memorable. In many ways, it's reminiscent of, and as poignant as, Ingmar Bergman's Wild Strawberries.
The film started playing on Oct. 18, at the Cinema Village Theater in Greenwich Village. The theater is located on 12th Street, off 5th Avenue, in Manhattan. Its run will be at least 10 days.
