On Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Weber Middle School auditorium, all the Home-School and Parent-Teacher Associations of Port Washington will host an evening discussion of issues concerning raising boys with Dr. Michael Kimmel.
Dr. Kimmel is a nationally known educator, author and professor of sociology at SUNY Stony Brook. He has been crucial in pioneering new cultural courses geared to examine men and boys lives from a pro-feminist perspective including his current course, The Sociology of Masculinity. His co-edited college textbook, Men's Lives has been adopted in virtually every course on men and masculinity in the country.
Dr. Kimmel's teachings and articles have been featured in newspapers and magazines including: Newsweek, People, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times Book Review, The Harvard Business Review, Psychology Today and more. He is the spokesperson for the National Organization for Men Against Sexism (NOMAS) and has appeared on The Today Show, Donahue, CNN, Smithsonian World, Crossfire and other prominent television shows. He has lectured at over 200 colleges and universities and runs workshops on preventing sexual harassment and implementing gender equality.
All Port parents are invited to come and hear Dr. Kimmel speak on Wednesday, Nov. 1. Even if you aren't raising boys, you'll find Dr. Kimmel's views on culture, gender equality, and the life of boys and men in today's world to be an interesting, informative, educational and rewarding experience.
