At the school board meeting last week, it was announced that the teachers contract was settled shortly before the meeting, subject to ratification by the union. The details of the contract will be disclosed after the vote, and then Port News will do a story on it.

Also, please take special note of the release from Senator Balboni's office on our editorial pages this week regarding the "extra" STAR refund check taxpayers will be receiving in October. It's important to note that those who are not yet enrolled in the STAR program should do so immediately so that they are eligible for the rebate. This can be done by contacting the Nassau County Assessors Office at 571-3442.
