On Tuesday night, June 13, PYA held its championship game at their fabulous new baseball fields. The game was a match up of two of the top 11/12-year-old teams that competed in PYA's Spring League. Credit-Suisse, managed by Anthony Orso , and J. Gunnar Investments, managed by Joe Duarte, sponsored the two teams. At least 100 proud parents and excited fans of both teams attended. Led by a strong pitching staff consisting of Stephen Orso and Patrick Boyle, Credit-Suisse was able to hold off the monster hitters of J. Gunnars team allowing only two hits a game. Credit-Suisse's timely offense was led by Michael Orso and Patrick Boyle. With all kinds of exciting plays executed, either team could have taken the game at many different times.
In defeat, J. Gunnar was kept in the game by the strong pitching of Eric Truss, Bryce Keller and Kevin Roberts and great defense by catcher Nick Duarte, center fielder Kyle Reiner and second baseman Joey Alagna. In the top of the sixth inning, J. Gunnar loaded the bases and it looked as if they had the momentum to take over the game. Thanks to the excellent defense led by Johnnie Weber and Diondre Dumpson, the Credit-Suisse team was able to hang on for a hard fought victory.
At the end of the game Commissioner Jimmy Cosolito awarded the MVP game trophy to Patrick Boyle who had two timely hits and also came on to pitch the last three innings, holding his composure in some very tight spots to receive the win.
The Baseball Commissioner Jimmy Cosolito, PYA Executive Ronnie Henderson and PYA President Billy Omeltchenko handed out trophies.
PYA would like to thank all the baseball sponsors, supporters and fans. Without them these great moments would not be possible.
