I have just read Rob Seiden's column on behalf of the school board in which there appears to be a "sin of omission." Mr. Seiden graciously thanks HSA and PTA groups, the superintendent and "non-parent community volunteers" for their help in getting out a large positive budget vote. As we do every year, retired educators, as well as in-service personnel, worked tirelessly to make hundreds of phone calls, write letters and engage in one-on-one dialogue with all members of the State Teachers Association, who live and vote in Port Washington. While I do know that the teaching staff would prefer that their thanks be in the way of a settled contract, our collective help in getting a budget passed for the benefit of our children's education certainly should not be totally overlooked as words of appreciation are being doled out.
