Edward "Charlie" Ratkoski, a lifelong resident, passed away on Feb. 19, 2006 after a long illness. He was well known and very active in the community. He is survived by his wife Victoria (Tucholski) of 55 years; his children, Edward Jr. (Darnell), Elizabeth Pisciotto (Salvatore) and John (April). He was a loving grandfather to Lance and Nicole Ratkoski, Krista, Alexandria and Salvatore Jr. Pisciotto and Jaimee and Kelli Ratkoski. He was brother to Jean Piekutowski (Leesburg, FL) and brother-in-law of Frank Tucholski (Syosset). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Charlie was a very active member of Flower Hill Hose Co. #1 for 57 years. He was a member of the Runts and Road Runners and other fire organizations. Charlie was a 60-year member of the Polish American Citizens Association and a past president. He was also very active in the Inc. Village of Port Washington North, a deputy mayor, trustee and superintendent of the village roads.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Peter of Alcantara Church and interment followed in Holy Rood Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Roslyn Heights Funeral Home, Roslyn Heights.

Longtime Port Washington resident Joseph Giordano passed away on April 11, 2006 at the age of 60. Joe was the beloved husband of Laura and cherished father of Jason. He was a loving brother to Dahlia Roma and husband John, and Salvatore Giordano and wife Mary. He was a loving brother-in-law to Ron and Martha Stovall and a devoted son-in-law to Stella and Alex Benisatto, all of Port Washington. He was the loving uncle to Doreen, Cynthia, Debra, Yolanda, Joseph, Mark, Joanne, Mary Louise, Lee and Jesse. He reposed at Knowles Funeral Home and his funeral service was at his church, St. Stephen's Church with interment at Pinelawn Cemetery.

Joe was a Schreiber HS graduate, as were his wife and son. He worked at Bayles Garden Center in Port Washington for 40 years. He was well known for his love of the outdoors and was a lobsterman, fisherman and boater in our local waters. His wife, Laura, works for the Port Washington School District and his son, Jason, is graduating with his MBA from Harvard Business School this June.

Anton Pekarek, a resident of Port Washington since 1952, died in his sleep on April 23, 2006. Anton is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gladys; his three children, Bruce, Cheryl Cusack and Darlene Beiman and their spouses; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Arrangements were made by the Austin F. Knowles Funeral Home, Port Washington.

1918 - 2006

Evelyn M. "Vivi" (Morra) Jette, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, MA, died on April 27, 2006. She was born in Toronto, Canada on Jan. 19, 1918, a beloved daughter of the late Frank L. and Adelina (Gerundo) Morra. She lived in Port Washington for 45 years before moving to Fairview in November of 2000. She was a communicant of St. Anne Church in Fairview. She leaves her beloved husband, Raymond G. Jette. They were married at Saint Jean de Baptiste Church in New York City on May 28, 1953 and enjoyed over 52 years of happiness together. She also leaves her loving brother, Dr. Richard Morra and his wife Beverly of West Harrison, NY. Her loving sister-in-law, Mary Morra of Los Angeles, CA. Her dear brother-in-law, Reverend Donald Jette, S.S.S. of the Blessed Sacrament Fathers in Cleveland, OH. Her dear sisters-in-law, Rachel Kerley and her husband Everett of Chicopee, MA and Estelle Landry and her husband Gerald of Belchertown, MA. She also leaves her many cherished nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. She was predeceased by her dear brother and sister, Alphonse Morra and Lydia Tuths. Her funeral was held on May 3 from the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Fairview Chapels (Phaneuf-Blais), 506 Britton St., Chicopee, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anne Church. Her committal service followed the Mass in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Agawam. For those who prefer to make a memorial donation, they may be made in her memory to the St. Anne Church Air Conditioning Fund, 30 College St., Chicopee, MA 01020. Logo
