Letter to the Editor
This year, for the first time, the school district has set aside two days to register new voters for the school board and school budget vote - Saturday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Tuesday, May 9 from 3 to 7:30 p.m. at the Administration Building, 100 Campus Drive.
There will be no registration on Election Day, Tuesday, May 16.
There is also another way that you can register and vote. If you are a new resident and you have never registered to vote in the general elections, registration applications and absentee ballot applications (if you will be away on May 16) are available at the Port Washington Public Library reference desk. The registration applications should be sent to the Nassau County Board of Elections (address is on form); absentee ballot applications should be sent to the school district at 100 Campus Drive in Port Washington.
Please note: The board of elections states they must receive your mailed registration application no later than May 5, in order for your registration to be "on the books" in time for the May 16 vote. It is suggested that all registration applications and absentee ballot requests be mailed by April 28.
To be eligible to register and vote, you must be a citizen, at least 18 years old with a primary residence in Port Washington for 30 days before Election Day.
For further information, you may call the board of elections, 571-2411 or fax 571-2058.
