Community Divide at PW Educational Assembly Forum
The Port Washington Education Assembly (PWEA) held a public forum at the Port Library a few weeks ago to discuss, in their words, "key issues that will affect next year's school budget." Leading the discussion were three PWEA officers, Ray Keenan, Peter Wezenaar and Frank Russo. Msrs. Wezenaar and Russo ran unsuccessfully last year for the school board, readers will recall. The Lapham Meeting Room, where the forum was held, was filled with both those who support PWEA's budget cutting ideas and those opposed to them. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Geoff Gordon, School Board President Rob Seiden and School Board Member Dean Nardone also attended.

On the Bay
Last week this column reported on the 75th Annual New Year's Frostbite Regatta and promised to report the Perpetual Award winners this week. Steve Benjamin won the Sam Wetherill Trophy, which is awarded to the most outstanding skipper in the regatta. Upon receiving his award, Steve thanked Herb Schmidt and the committee "for doing their normal fantastic job of running the races." He continued by thanking John Barry, commodore of Manhasset Bay YC and the rest of the committee manning the crash boats, John Tuscano, the MBYC club manager for the great food and facilities and concluded with thanking James Whitcomb, his crew, for "making the extra effort to come back from the Orange Bowl. He got in at 4 a.m. on Saturday after his flight was delayed" Steve also promised to bring more boats from Larchmont next year to the regatta.

Wrestling Staff Gains More Strength
Brian Walsh has joined the coaching staff at Schreiber High School as the assistant boys wrestling coach. Coach Walsh comes with a strong background. "I was born into a wrestling family, it's in my genes. My father coaches and so does my brother. My sister was a competitive gymnast."
