As the Varsity Football Vikings were completing one of their best campaigns in years, the Vikings Junior Varsity team quietly cruised to a 6-1 record finishing first place in their conference. Under intense and intricate leadership provided by Coaches Mike Gallagher and Tom Daniels, the JV Vikings put together the most successful season in recent Port Washington history.
Freshman Jeff "The Hammer" Frocarro played both sides of the ball coming out of the backfield on offense and delivering hit after devastating hit on defense. Quarterbacks Larry Baglio and Mike McCabe handled the offense admirably as Jeremy Gurwitz, Tyler Fernandez and Juan Munoz formed the line. Injuries overcome early in the season as Andrew Weil suffered a lacerated kidney, Mark Brewster injured his wrist and Nick Omeltchenko broke his ankle. Frank Miscioscia filled in on tight end superbly.
The defense stacked nicely as Steven Kaufman and Jeff Frocarro led the linebacking crew of Sam Pyo and Dan Sirotkin. On defensive line, standouts Ryan Calenda, Jan Munoz and Jae Won Chung stacked up nicely. James Lopilato and Franco Signorini were powerhouses in the JV Vikings secondary. Conor Broderick was excellent at kicker, handling kickoffs and extra points. All in all, the boys have provided a bright forecast for upcoming years for Vikings football, so next fall, make sure you come out and be a fan of these successful Vikings.
