A new information site has been created that brings together a wealth of information for residents of Port Washington. Barbara O'Donnell, school counselor at Daly Elementary School and Larry Tietz, Safe and Drug Free School and Community Task Force member, collaborated their ideas. It is a link off the port net website. On the Port webpage, go to www.portnet.k12.us and click safeschool for information. It will include all programs, resources and special activities that will help to keep our children safe. Some of the topics offered include: drug prevention, good parenting, strategies to healthy eating. All the schools, private and public, religious establishments and a host of other organizations can post their activities. Any special event that compliments education and culture is listed. Each listing will include its topic, target audience, date and time.
There have been special programs at our schools, such as "Risky Business and Rachel's Challenge" that were presented at the middle school and high school level. "If you are a parent of a child not in those grades, you might not have known about those programs," said Barbara O'Donnell. There is a wealth of information in our community that deal with the current critical issues facing our youngsters and teens. "The goal is for this website to become a resource for the people of our community," said Rose Bonanno, of the Health & Physical Education Department. "The school district and various organizations are working hard to educate us. The new website give everyone access to all that is happening. It's just a click away."
