It's a banner season for Schreiber's Cross Country team coached by Jeremy Klaff. The team finished their season with a record of 11-2. They went 6-0 in their division, earning them first place and the division title. "What's super exciting about this, is that it's the first division title since 1964. We've had to wait too long to bring it back to Port," were the words of their coach. "Now that we know we can do it we hope to hold onto the title for a few years. Especially with the strong freshmen team members that took first place in the freshmen 5K race." Special recognition to Richard Schmitz who has now won four straight races. His time in the 5K was 17:17:6 at a meet in Farmingdale. Other strong performers on the team include: Raul Maraboli, Peter Gabrielli, Chris Catalano, Jacob Litke and Wilmer Chamul.
Something new on the Cross Country team this year is representation from the girls. It's the first time in over a decade that there is a girls team. They had an excellent season, with a record of 5-1 and finishing in second place in their division. Their overall record for the season is 10-4. Outstanding performances this season by: Lauren Hanat, Astrid Firland Schill, Tarryn Fischer, Marissa Fox and Rose-Ellen Diffley.
Captain, Jacob Litke said, "It's a historic year. When we're at the meets the coaches are impressed with how well Port is going." Another senior member of the team, Andrew Sideris said, "We had a great season and there are more to come. The freshman have added such depth to our team."
