Weber School Wing Named for WWII Hero
On Friday, Oct. 7, hundreds of Port residents, including elected officials and veterans groups crowded into the library of the Weber Middle School to name Weber's new wing after one of Port's heroes of WWII, Major Douglas T. Jacobson of the United States Marine Corps. The date was selected to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the date President Harry S Truman presented the Congressional Medal of Honor to PFC Jacobson for outstanding bravery during the battle of Iwo Jima in the Pacific.

Pride in Port 2005 Fever Has Begun
Pictured above are members of the Pride in Port Committee and local officials at the special ceremony that renames Main Street for Pride in Port Week. This year the honor was bestowed posthumously upon George "Sarge" Mahoney, who passed away last October.

Save Our Sports Campaign in Full Swing
The Athletic Association of Port Washington (AAPW) is working diligently with an ad hoc group of civic-minded community members to restore winter and spring sports programs at Weber Middle School and Schreiber High School. As reported in the Oct. 6 edition of the Port News, hundred of students will not have the opportunity to participate in intra school or interschool athletics without the financial support of the Port Washington community.
