Fuzzy Levane, a Port Washington resident who has been involved with basketball since 1945, describes his father's reaction to his basketball career as shock that one could assure success in life "bouncing a ball." His father, a musician with the Metropolitan Opera, is in contrast to many parents today who think staring in a sport is the way to their child's future success.

Saturday morning, Oct. 1 dawned with such bright and clear skies that it begged for outdoor activity. The one thing lacking - at least for the sailing community - was wind. With multiple water activities planned for Manhasset Bay, sailors and event organizers were dismayed to see the glass-like condition throughout the morning.

Platform Tennis Is "Born Again" at Manorhaven Park
Platform tennis ... is it a "new" sport? Well, not exactly, but it is not as old as baseball, basketball, golf or tennis. Its birth date is attributed to 1928 in Scarsdale, NY and this year it is being "reborn" at Manorhaven Park in Port Washington. Two new courts have been installed and are ready for play.
