On Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 10, Port Washington Youth Activities will hold its 8th annual golf outing, sponsored by Finn Mac Cool's restaurant.
The event will be held at the Village Club of Sands Point on Middle Neck Road. At 10 a.m., the day's events will commence with a continental breakfast and registration. A "shotgun" start follows at noon. A barbecue lunch is also included, as is access to full use of the club's locker facilities.
Upon completion of the day's round, all golfers will then move on to Finn Mac Cool's on Main Street at 6 p.m. for the awards dinner and prize raffle, compliments of the restaurant and its owners, Connie O'Reilly and Jim O'Neill.
The donation for the outing, which includes the dinner, is $225/golfer. Those wishing to attend the dinner only and not play golf may do so for a smaller donation of $80. Sponsor levels from $150 to $1,000 are still available, as are opportunities for prize donations for the accompanying raffle.
Since its inception in 1998, the PYA Golf Outing has grown from an initial 70 golfers to a total of 189 last year. It is PYA's premier fund-raising event during the fall and has generated nearly $100,000 in net proceeds to the organization during that time. That surplus from the outing has traditionally been used to fund additional operating needs, and grow PYA's programs that impact more than 2,000 children annually in Port Washington.
Due to the increasing popularity of this event combined with the rules of the Village Club, PYA is restricting registration to 144 golfers (36 foursomes) for this year's event. It is thus recommended that your foursomes and slots are committed with payment as soon as possible. Further information on the golf outing is available at Arena Sports at 52 Main Street, or by calling the outing chairman Nick DeMeo at 944-6573, PYA Executive Director Ron Henderson at 944-3077, or Steve Avazis of Arena Sports at 767-5108.
