A clarification is needed to the excellent reporting of my views on Social Security (Ackerman Surveys the Current Scene-4/7/05, Port Washington News). I strongly oppose any plan that would privatize Social Security-now or in the future. The current system needs adjustments from time to time and that's to be expected. This time proven mandatory system has stood us well, and should continue.

I would not necessarily be opposed to people being able to shelter additional "before tax dollars" in a private fund tax free till retirement. Many people have that now, but it must not be instead of Social Security.
