Friends of the Library Cabin Fever Series Features Patrick Lyons
Snow and ice did not deter Port residents from turning out in full force for March's Friends of the Library "Cabin Fever" event at the Sands Point Village Club. Selma Wilner, program chair, described the group as a "hardy crew." Wilner introduced the featured speaker: Patrick Lyons, a Port resident who is on the editing staff of The New York Times.

Bob Litwin Wins Over 55 ITF World Championships
Bob Litwin, longtime Manhasset resident, recently returned from a successful tennis trip to Perth, Australia. For the first time in his career as a senior player he won the ITF World Championships for 55 and over players.

Last Sunday, April 24 was a day made for frostbiters. After several weeks of warm weather that had some of our sailors out in shorts, Sunday brought overcast skies, chilly and damp air, and high winds. The last sail for the season, the Long Distance Race, scheduled for Saturday, but cancelled due to a dire forecast, was held the following day in winds that were a steady 12-15 knots, with gusts clocked as high as 24 mph. For those ocean racers, winds at these high gusts are not too problematic, but when you are in a small, rather unforgiving dinghy, these gusts can be dangerous.
