Port Postmaster Robert J. Guglielmo held award ceremonies at the Port Post Office on Thursday, March 31, to honor over a dozen employees of the postal service who had served over 30 years. The cumulative work experience of those who were recognized exceeded 400 years. The senior letter carrier who was also retiring the day of the ceremony was Burchard (Burt) Lewis who had completed 40 years.

The service was attended by ranking members of the postal service, union officials and a host of other dignitaries. Guglielmo affably hosted the awards and expressed his appreciation for the dedication shown by the honorees during their three or more decades of service to the Port community. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the attendees were treated to a brief lunch.

Burt Lewis has been a letter carrier who covered every route in Port. For the last 20 years. Lewis served the Sands Point community and had high praise for the wonderful relationship he enjoyed with residents of the Point. Lewis is a lifelong resident of Port and has a home in the vicinity of the town dock. He said he looked forward to the joys of a well-earned retirement.
