After living in Port for 40 years, I moved to West Los Angeles some five years ago. The traffic is as bad or worse here. My solution to the traffic problem both in Port and LA is to use my bike for most local shopping and errands. For example, while in Port I biked to the LIRR train station. I am surprised that more Port residents don't use a bike, particularly school children. That would certainly help reduce the Manhattan-like traffic problem that currently exists.
