On the blizzard weekend of Jan. 22, three local area clubs, Plandome Country Club, Port Washington Yacht Club, and Manhasset Bay Yacht Club held their annual Cow Bay Invitational Platform Tennis Tournament, with the proceeds donated to two recognized charities benefiting the survivors of the tsunami disaster earlier in the month.

This annual member-guest "paddle" tournament of the three clubs was reformatted for completion in one day in anticipation of the storm forecasted for later in day. In fact, the final matches were conducted under very snowy conditions.

In the "A" draw final of the tournament, John Maher of PWYC and his guest Tony Barton of Piping Rock Club defeated Tom Cullen of PCC and his partner Taylor Stanton of Nassau Country Club.

In the "B" draw final, Bob Sanchez of PWYC and his partner Bill Marvin from Garden City Golf Club defeated Don Richardson of MBYC and his guest Kevin Carsey of Garden City Golf.

The entire draw for the tournament included 28 teams and matches were played at all three local clubs, followed by lunch and refreshments at Port Washington Yacht Club. The Committee for this charity event was led by John Maher of PWYC, and included other committee members Tom Cullen of PCC, Don Richardson of MBYC, and Ron Ronzoni of PWYC.
