The Town of North Hempstead invites all who live or work on the Port Washington Peninsula to join "Vision Process" that will begin on Jan. 26, at 8 p.m. at the Carrie P. Weber Junior High School on Port Washington Boulevard. The visioning process is a community-based planning initiative where local governments, local community groups, and local residents come together to create a shared vision for their community.
The Town of North Hempstead joins with the villages of Baxter Estates, Flower Hill, Manorhaven, Plandome Manor, Port Washington North and Sands Point; Nassau County; Senator Michael Balboni, Assemblyman
Thomas DiNapoli; General Council of Homeowner Associations of Port Washington; Port Washington Business Improvement District and the Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington in this new endeavor.
"The Port Washington peninsula is a wonderful place to live, however, we all have concerns about the peninsula's future in regard to such things as traffic, overdevelopment, water quality, and recreational needs," said Supervisor Kaiman. "I believe the best way to address those concerns is by coming together with those who live and work in the community itself."
The visioning concept has been effective in other areas as a way to do community planning starting from the ground up. Specific areas of concern include: the future of Manhasset Bay, to address the traffic and parking problems on the peninsula, to meet the needs of our children, who need ball fields and places to go that are fun and safe, to make sure that our drinking water is protected, and to set priorities in regards to future planning and distribution of resources.
"The B.I.D. is extremely excited to be a part of this process," added Roy Smitheimer, executive director of the Business Improvement District. "We look forward to the input from the entire community as we all determine Port Washington's future."
