Antonette Terranova, 90, of Port Washington, died on Jan. 5, 2005. She is survived by her husband Vincent; her children Mary Ann Malinoski (Edward), Antoinette Lewis (Burt), Laura Thoden (Richard) and Diana Hostetter (Russell); nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Arrangements were made by the Austin F. Knowles Funeral Home, Port Washington. Interment Nassau Knolls Cemetery.

Thornton Stearns, a previous resident of Port Washington, died on Jan. 6, 2005 in Allendale, NJ. For 30 years Thornton and his wife, Gertrude, had been active members of the Port Washington community involved in the Port Washington Play Troup of which he was president, the library and St. Stephen's Church. In 1973 they moved to Amherst, NH.

Born in Brooklyn in 1913, Thornton graduated from Renssalear Polytechnic Institute and worked as an optical engineer for Kollsman Instrument Corporation for most of his professional life. He was preceded in death by Gertrude in 1989 and is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Meg and Gary Smeal of Allendale; a brother Hamilton of Rochester; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Contributions to Children Incorporated, an international charity founded by Thornton's cousin, Jeanne Clarke Wood, will be welcome.

Mrs. Edna Cappio (Cunningham),79, a Heritage Village, CT. resident for six years, died Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at Danbury Hospital.

She was the wife of Peter Joseph Cappio. Mrs. Cappio was born March 16, 1925 in New York City. A graduate of Bayside High School, she was employed at The New York Times' archive department. Married for 58 years, Mrs. Cappio resided, with her family, in Manhasset, LI for 50 years.

She was an avid bowler and bridge player. She played tennis and golf and was a member of Manhasset Bath Club, Port Washington Yacht Club and Glen Cove Golf Club. Mrs. Cappio was a volunteer for many years at St. Francis Hospital, Port Washington.

Survived by her husband and six children, she was the loving mother of Nancy Godina (John) of Topsham, VA and Punta Gorda, FL; Philip Cappio (Mary) of Scotch Plains, NJ; Daniel Cappio (Lorraine) of Ramsey, NJ; Bruce Cappio of Sayville, LI; Robert Cappio (Jessie) of Armonk, NY; Janice Barlow (John) of Southport, CT., 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements by Van-Emburgh-Sneider Funeral Home, Ramsey, NJ included a Friday, Jan. 7 viewing, followed by a Mass at St. Paul's RC Church. Internment is at Calvary Cemetery, Patterson, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Diabeties Research Foundation or the Audubon Society.

A memorial service will be held at the Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Southbury, CT in the spring. Logo
