Is it just me, or does it seem that many of us have missed the point? Nassau County's Reassessment has caused a situation in Port Washington where our taxes have at least doubled since 2000/2001. Yet, there is supposed to be a law where this kind of result from reassessment is supposed to be limited to the mid-single digits each year!
We complain about our taxes, but no one does anything about it! We complain about our increased school taxes, yet there is no thinking outside the box for more efficient solutions that meet both the important needs of students and at the same time create efficiencies. We refuse to address that we never seem to be getting the most from our dollar, yet we accept that while at the same time complaining about minor things. Long, or even intermediate-term planning is kept to a minimum. How about the big picture?
It is time for the citizens of Port Washington to unite and demand that we get our money's worth. If our taxes have increased more than 25 percent per year for the last four years, and we are told by each taxing authority that our increases in taxes are only equal to single digit increases, isn't there something the matter? I recommend that a special committee be created to investigate and come up with real solutions about how we might achieve our goals, and still not get taxed beyond belief. Let us have a real forum with real solutions
