On Thursday, Nov. 4, some of our commuters, especially those who exit on Haven Avenue and Bayview, may have been inconvenienced. On that rainy night the Great Neck/Port Washington Elks Lodge hosted a dinner and entertainment night for our disabled veterans. These veterans traveled from four VA hospitals: Brooklyn, Manhattan, The Bronx and St. Albans, Queens. The Elks Lodge has been doing this for the past several years, in keeping with our motto, "As long as there are veterans, the Elks will never forget them." The veterans look forward to this event and a night out away from their hospital confinement. This year we entertained close to 100 disabled veterans, many in wheelchairs.

We thank the commuters for their understanding and patience. We also thank the Port Washington Police Department for their assistance. But most of all, God bless our veterans.

Kathy Cush, Exalted Ruler

Great Neck/Port Washington Elks Lodge No. 1543
