More than 1,000 runners are expected to participate in the 5-Mile Thanksgiving Day Run, sponsored by the Community Chest of Port Washington, to be held on Nov. 25 at 8:30 a.m. at Manorhaven Park. Co-race chairs for this event are Joel Ziev and Leo Ullman.
"The Thanksgiving Day Run is a terrific Port Washington tradition, and we are proud to sponsor the race with the proceeds going to help support the Chest," said Joel Ziev, co-chair of the Race Committee and past president of the Community Chest of Port Washington. "We encourage businesses to sponsor the Thanksgiving Day Run and support this wonderful Port Washington event."
You may register online at www.portchest.org or, if you prefer, applications are available from local merchants or by contacting the Community Chest at 767-2121. All athletes will receive a commemorative long-sleeve t-shirt. The fee to enter the race is $25. You may also register on race day for a fee of $35, beginning at 6:45 a.m.
Race numbers may be picked up on Tuesday, Nov. 23 and Wednesday, Nov. 24 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Manorhaven Park pool building.
Awards will be given to the top three athletes, male and female, in age categories starting at 12-and-under and topping off at 80+. Again, this year, there will be a Wheelchair Division. Timing and results will be calculated by Finish Line Road Race Technicians. Results will be posted on www.flrrt.com.
In addition, volunteers are needed to help organize and to support the run. If you can lend a hand, contact the Community Chest office at 767-2121.
All proceeds from the Port Washington Thanksgiving Day Run will benefit the Community Chest of Port Washington, a not-for-profit charitable organization established in 1949 to raise funds for distribution to local charities dedicated to improving people's lives.
