The Port Washington Vikings Varsity Football team lost the homecoming game to Oceanside on Saturday afternoon by the score of 18-7. The loss was quite a disappointment to the Vikings, who battled the much higher ranked Oceanside team the entire game. Port's defense, led by senior captain Matt Ferraro, effectively shut down the Oceanside attack after giving up 15 points in the first quarter when Oceanside managed to score after two unfortunate Port turnovers. Oceanside's only other points came on a field goal late in the fourth quarter. Port's only score came on a 22-yard touchdown run by senior Eddie Hepp who followed a huge block by junior Harry Jung.
The Vikings hope to avenge this loss in their net home game this Friday night. The game kicks off an exciting weekend for Port. Thanks to a tradition initially funded by the Port Washington Football Booster Club and now carried on by the school, Schreiber is able to hold night games for this one and only weekend of the year, illuminating the fields with rented lights. The Port Washington Football Booster Club invites you to show your support and help this town "bring back the pride" by cheering on the Schreiber Vikings.
The action kicks off Friday Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. sharp, Schreiber Vikings vs. Syosset, starting with a pre-game senior tribute. This longstanding Port tradition honors the Vikings Football Seniors, team Captains Matt Ferraro (#2) and Paul Chang (#73), Jae Woo Chung (#12), Bobby Fischetti (#5), Eddie Heppt (#32), Hee Dong Kam (#23), Bryant Lee (77), Keith Martinez (#76), Greg Posytn (#4) and David Verni (#40).
