Alexandra Politis, former resident of Port Washington, passed away on July 8, 2004. Mrs. Politis, age 95, resided in Florida since the 1970s and spent summers at her daughter's home in Port Washington, where this year she died, peacefully. Wife of the late Andrew, she is survived by her children, Joanna (Dr. Stanley Cutler), Anthony Coulpides, Retired Navy Commander, of Santee, CA; sister Minette Xiques of Margate, FL; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Politis attended New York City public and parochial schools, and various undergraduate courses at NYU. Throughout WWII she served as a Red Cross volunteer nurse in New York hospitals.
Mrs. Politis was chairman of the Greek Earthquake Relief Volunteers with the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Manhattan. She was awarded a medal for her many months of service by the King of Greece.
Arrangements were made by the Austin F. Knowles Funeral Home, Port Washington. Religious services were held at Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church in Roslyn and the gravesite. Interment was at Nassau Knolls Memorial Park.
