"It is definitely a first and a record for Port Washington, that the Girls Varsity Badminton Team has had an undefeated season, 14-0 and won the Conference III championship," said Coach Andi Uiberall.
It's been a very exciting, intense and rewarding season for the girls. We knew we had a good team, as our five seniors have a history with the team. Megan has played for five years, Tiffany, Rachel and Zoe, four and Jane, three. Each year the team grew stronger and our momentum grew. Two of our doubles teams played together last year and we had all three of our single players returning. We started the season strong, winning our first match against Great Neck South who is always a strong contender. When we played Roslyn and won we all then realized what we could accomplish. Roslyn dominated not only the conference but the Nassau County Team Championships as well.
This year's captains, Rachel Brandstadler and Megan Zebroski summed it up by saying, "Our season has been amazing. Our team has great dynamic and we have surpassed all our expectations. We are proud that we have taken high school badminton to a new level."
The team is now competing in the Nassau County Team Championships. "The team has worked hard and accomplished so much this year. I am extremely fortunate to have such a talented, wonderful group. No matter what the final outcome will be, Schreiber's Girls Varsity Badminton team has soared to new heights," said Andi Uiberall.
