Vickie Johnson and Edward Tylinski Selected as Co-Grand Marshals of Memorial Day Parade
Port Washington's American Legion Post has selected Vickie Johnson to be this year's co-grand marshal of the Memorial Day parade. Mrs. Johnson's selection marks the first time in the history of the parade that this recognition was given to a female. A veteran of World War II, she volunteered to join the armed forces to free up men for fighting.

With Huge Voter Turnout, School Budget Passes by 530 Votes
More than a third of the area's districts, 46 in all, had budgets rejected in the first round of voting, reportedly the worst setbacks in 15 years. (To put this in context, usually 90 percent of the school budgets are passed each year, according to an article in Newsday). However, the Port Washington taxpayers approved a school budget of $99,833,944 in a vote of 2,905 to 2,375. This represents an 8.55 percent increase over last year's budget.

Undefeated!
"It is definitely a first and a record for Port Washington, that the Girls Varsity Badminton Team has had an undefeated season, 14-0 and won the Conference III championship," said Coach Andi Uiberall.

The New York YC was filled to capacity on Tuesday evening, May 18 when the Sailing Foundation of New York joined with the Olympic Sailing Committee of US SAILING to present the 2004 Golden Spinnaker Gala, a fund raiser for the sailors representing the U.S. at the Olympics in Athens, Greece. Almost 300 guests met in the spectacular Model Room for the black-tie event, which included dinner with the athletes and live and silent auctions.
