The Port Washington Soccer Club's spring 2004 season starts Saturday, March 20, and runs through Sunday, June 13. For those who did not already register, there will be a late registration session at Sousa Elementary School on Saturday, March 13, from 9 a.m.-noon. Registration forms are available elsewhere in this edition, and have been distributed through the schools. This spring's $95 registration fee (scholarship available) will include a copy of A Sideline Guide for Soccer Parents by James MacLeod. Travel soccer players who wish to work as paid referees this season are urged to contact club director Ms. Leo Kipcakli at Nkipcakli@yahoo.com immediately.

The fourth-sixth grade soccer program has been upgraded significantly this spring. Practices, including game play, shall be held on Saturday morning from 9-10:15 a.m. run by Noga Soccer and there will be intramural games on Sundays against other local intramural teams.

In mid-May, there will be tryouts for next year's travel U-10 soccer teams (players born after Aug. 1, 1994). Dates and times will be published. Starting in fall 2004, U-10 soccer will change in two major respects: games will be played with six field players and a goalie (instead of seven) with a smaller roster of 12 per team, and scores and standings will no longer be maintained. These changes were implemented in 2003 by the US Youth Soccer Association to foster youth development by increasing ball contact and decreasing pressures imposed by competition. For parents interested in coaching a travel team next fall, please contact Club VP-Competition, Steven Friedman at coachsf90@aol.com.

For any parents interested in coaching or learning more about soccer, there will be a 12-hour coaching class offered on four weeknights this spring in one of the school gyms; details will be published on the club's website at www.pwsoccer.com. The cost will be $65.

Congratulations to the following teams for winning their divisions this fall. GU11 Flames, BU12 Xtreme and GU13 Scorpions. Congratulations to the following teams for winning sportsmanship awards this fall: GU11 Stars, BU12 Xtreme, BU13 Lightning, and GU13 Scorpions.
