Herbert Haines, 92, died on Feb. 1, 2004 in Holmes Beach, FL. He was born on Jan. 3, 1912 in Highland County, OH. In the late '30s he traveled to British Guiana where he worked as a graphic artist and feature writer for the Georgetown Daily Chronicle. During WWII he enlisted in the Army. After the war he went to New York and became art director at RKO Studios and Paramount Pictures.
Herb and his wife Marion moved to Port Washington in 1954. In 1957 Herb started Haines Advertising on Haven Ave. in Port Washington, a business that continued until his retirement 26 years later. Herb was very active in the Port Washington community. At various times he was president of the Chamber of Commerce, the Cow Neck Peninsula society, trustee of Nassau Knolls Cemetery and a member of Rotary. In 1983, after commuting for 20 years to their Florida condo during the winter months, Herb retired and he and Marion moved to a new home in Holmes Beach.
Herb is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marion; and nieces and nephews including Phyllis Keogh, Ralph Gorga, Harold Pastore and Robert Pastore.
Beverly Gail Burke, of Port Washington, died on Feb. 5, 2004. Wife of the late Thomas. Daughter of Elizabeth Olsen. Mother of Timothy, Michael, Sean and Bruce. Sister of Pamela. Grandmother of five. Memorial service at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Port Washington.
Barbara L. Erichsen (nee Lampus), 90, of Port Washington, died on Feb. 5, 2004. Wife of the late George. Mother of George (Beth), Barbara Salerno (John), Kathryn Mathiesen (Edward) and David. Grandmother of Billy, John, Danny, Lori, Jaime, Lindsay and Travis. Sister of Esther Kelly, Arthur Lampus and Catherine Sheshene Fletcher. Great-grandmother of eight. Aunt of many nieces and nephews. Arrangements were made by the Austin F. Knowles Cemetery, Port Washington. Interment Nassau Knolls Cemetery.
