For the first time in 10 years, Port's JV Lady Vikings, coached by Liz Hutchinson, won the Freeport Basketball Tournament. The tournament, postponed due to snow, was held during the recess at Freeport High School. In Friday and Saturday's games, the JV girls held on to leads from start to finish which stretched from 14 points at times and went down to a narrow one-point lead during an exciting game with Manhasset in the semifinals.

Sophomore starters Sarah Weiss, Jackie Young, Emily Sorg and freshmen Samantha Reichenback, Michelle Doscas and Filiz Kipcakli led the team to a 38-35 victory against Manhasset and 49-41 victory in the final with Wantagh. Filiz Kipcakli was named tournament MVP, Doscas and Weiss named to tournament all-star roster. Players Erin Betsch and Jenna Rashti provided the starting teams with able assists. According to Coach Liz Hutchinson, "the team showed incredible poise against some very tough competition. This is a very talented group of girls who should prove to be one of the top JV teams in the county." Logo
