I was in attendance at the school board meeting this past Tuesday at Schreiber High School. I was very impressed by the efforts of the superintendent and the administrative staff to clarify the needs of our schools relating to building repair and new athletic fields. Dr. Gordon stated that they have been guided by four parameters 1) need for repairing current facilities 2) need to maximize current athletic fields on current properties 3) evaluation of need and locations for new fields, and 4) environmental issues.
I was very pleased to learn that the school administration reported that with their proposed in-budget enhancements to current school properties regarding athletic fields, the school apparently does not need to destroy the Guggenheim fields and/or meadow to build new athletic fields. And I was impressed that both the school administration and the board were doing what they could to minimize the cost of a school repair bond that will likely be presented to our voters some time next year.
