Eliot Spitzer Addresses Port Residents
New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer was the keynote speaker at the Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington ("Residents") annual meeting. The presentation, which attracted a full house, was co-sponsored by the Port Washington Public Library. Spitzer is known as a leading environmental activist, who has vigorously addressed air and water quality issues, as well as protection of our natural resources. Tom DiNapoli, chair of the New York State Assembly Committee on Environmental Conservation, said of Spitzer, "On the environment there has never been a more proactive attorney general." Spitzer has recently taken on the perpetrators of the financial market scandals, leading Time magazine to designate him "Crusader of the Year."

Eddie's Holiday Party for Special Children and Adults
The holiday spirit often has us racing from place to place to grab the latest deal on an array of presents for family and friends, but sometimes there are gifts that do not have a price tag, they come from the heart and are given freely and openly, truly they are the best kind. Such is the gift Eddie Kulich has hosted and the Manhasset Bay Sportsmen's Club has graciously sponsored for the past 13 years giving special children and adults a holiday party visited by none other than Santa Claus and many wonderful helpers.

On The Bay
The weather has not been conducive for frostbiting, with high winds preventing sailing on several weekends. On Sunday, December 21st, three boats were out racing in 12-14 knot winds out of the west. There was a little chop on Manhasset Bay, and it was quite cold, and luckily there were no capsizes as the water temperature was 33(. The Race Committee was in full force with six members on Kraus' Kastle and three crash boats protecting the racers from harm. Hot dogs and hamburgers were the menu for the day, topped off with Barbara Schmidt's delicious and coveted brownies. Winners for the day: 1. #536, Pedro Lorson/Eva Lund, 2. #514, Ted Toombs/Matt Cornachio, and 3. #511, Stephanie Baas/Dana Schnipper.

Lord Stanley Visits PW
The NHL made a pit stop in Port Washington on Dec. 12. ESPN started a new ad campaign and featured the Port Washington Youth Roller Travel Hockey Team. The "Kings" who are currently playing at Hotskates in Lynbrook had an exclusive photo shoot at St. Peters posing with the Stanley Cup. As the players filed into the room you could see their eyes open and light up. ESPN will be featuring Port's Team in January's edition of ESPN the magazine. In addition to this, the boys appeared on Cablevision News Channel 12 with interviews of goalie Marko Ristic, center Eric Lewis and defenseman Shane Higgins. Additional entities picked up the event off the AP wire and Nassau County Newsday is also running a feature article in its Sunday edition.
