  • News: Marilyn Rodahan Appointed Principal at Weber Middle School Amid Controversy

Upon recommendation of the superintendent, the Port Washington School District Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of Marilyn Rodahan as principal of the Weber Middle School, effective September 2, 2003. Rodahan is currently an assistant principal of South Woods Middle School in Syosset and an adjunct professor at Hofstra University. At the board meeting, member Robert Seiden commented that Superintendent Dr. Geoffrey Gordon's recommendations were provided in a six-page, double-sided document that was the culmination of several months and "inordinate hours of hard work" by Dr. Gordon's staff and by the board's personnel committee, chaired by Mark Marcellus. • Sports: On The Bay

In the course of our everyday lives, we hear or read about people in the sports world who have a dream and through hard work and determination, plus a lot of skill, turn that dream into a reality. We have such a person right here in Port Washington. Monika Dorman, whose age it would be impertinent to disclose, but suffice it to say she has grown children, has just completed the 2003 Blackburn Challenge, a 22 - plus mile, mostly open ocean race around Cape Ann in Gloucester, Massachusetts on Saturday, July 26. Just finishing this race would be quite an accomplishment, but Monika would never be satisfied with such mediocrity. She finished the race in 4 hours, 14 minutes, and 39 seconds, beating out the other 14 contestants in her division, all of whom were men. Unconfirmed reports indicate that Monika was the only woman to place first in a division - there were only three other women entered in the 166- boat regatta. She won a beautiful plaque for her efforts, which reads, "Blackburn Challenge 2002 First Place Sliding Seat Rowing Singles." FULL STORY

Scoreboards don't always tell the story of the game. The Port Washington 9-year-old Legends (Blue Squad) fell to Carle Place by a score of 4-1 on Wednesday, July 16, but by no means was the final score indicative of how close the game was from start to finish. FULL STORY
