Two Residents Named Grand Marshal of Port Washington Memorial Day Parade
The parade committee of the Port Washington Memorial Day Parade has selected George O'Dowd and Joseph F. Birk, both of Port Washington to serve as co-grand marshals of this year's Memorial Day Parade. As with his co-Grand Marshal, O'Dowd's military career in World War II was also in the Pacific Theater where he participated in the liberation of the Philippines.

On The Bay
Even though Mother Nature is trying to fool us with her below normal temperatures, she can't keep our sailors, who have suffered, as all of us have, through a long and cold winter, away from their boats and Manhasset Bay. One can look out at our bay and see some boats already at their mooring and on Thursday evenings and the past few weekends, we are rewarded with a most delightful sight - a view of boats out in our harbor with their sails filled by the wind, and the sun shining brightly to enhance their beauty. This "snapshot," which is one of the first signs of spring, reminds us, once again, how fortunate we are to live on our peninsula surrounded by our beautiful bay.

Port Baseball Comes Up Just Short
A season of ups and downs finally came to an end for Port baseball on Thursday afternoon. A 5-1 loss to Herricks ended not only the regular season for the Vikings but also ended any hopes for a post season, as well. Playing against a tough division, the team struggled mightily to piece together a winning streak. With many seniors leaving for college at the end of the year, new names will be filled out on the score card next year.
