Sheets Creek Cleanup Progresses
The cleanup of Sheets Creek in Manorhaven, begun about three years ago, has taken major strides forward this year, according to Warren Schein, Town of North Hempstead Deputy Parks Commissioner and Harbormaster.

Soundview King Kullen Expansion on Schedule
Shoppers, who are keeping their chins up as they shop at the Soundview King Kullen during the expansion, will be pleased to know the ambitious construction project will be completed as scheduled and that King Kullen will begin expanded operations in the early spring. The renovation will accommodate a greater variety of groceries and perishable items, such as produce, and include a Wild By Nature "store within a store" which will be stocked with a broad selection of organic foods, including fruits, vegetables, groceries, bulk foods and other health products.

According to William Taylor, the yachting correspondent for the New York Herald, the First Annual Regatta of the Frostbite YC took place in 1932 at the Knickerbocker YC and had everything a good Frostbite regatta ought to have: it rained, it hailed and it snowed. He continued, "The idea of Frostbite Regatta, of course, is to prove that some people are crazier than others and those who are craziest sail races in 11-foot open boats in the middle of snowstorms - and enjoy it." New Year's Day, the second day of this year's regatta, held on Sunday, December 29th and Wednesday, January 1st, held to the frostbite tradition. While it did not snow, the weather was cold, damp and it rained heavily all day. Both Race Committee members and sailors comments went something like "it was the coldest I ever have been" to "one of the most miserable days of sailing ever." Maybe Mr. Taylor was onto something with his comment of "and those who are craziest..."
