On Monday, Oct. 7, Port Washington Youth Activities held its fifth annual golf outing, this year for the first time at the Village Club of Sands Point. The event was once again presented by Finn MacCool's restaurant through the gracious generosity of owner Connie O'Reilly.
A record 143 golfers and more than 60 sponsors led the way to PYA's largest traditional fund-raising event of the fall. The low gross/best ball foursome of Nick DeMeo, Tom Ehrhardt, Alan Zaremba and Joe Carbone captured the prestigious Marty Rybecky Trophy (named for the late PYA Hall of Famer and longtime director). The low net foursome included Phil Rybecky, Rich Rybecky, Paul Rybecky and Bob English, Sr. Connie O'Reilly won the individual low gross with a round of 71.
At the conclusion of the 18-hole shotgun tournament, all golfers retired to Finn MacCool's for the dinner and prize portion of the outing. The camaraderie of the day was enhanced not only by the fine food and excellent service of the restaurant, but the fabulous awards and raffles, which included sports memorabilia, consumer electronics and golf equipment.
In his summary of the results of another job well done by the PYA Golf Committee, chairman Nick DeMeo thanked not only the participants and sponsors, but gave special mention to Connie O'Reilly and the staff of Finn MacCool's and the Village Club for staging the well-run tournament. Said Nick, "The success of our golf outing would not have been possible to such a great extent without the consideration, promotional efforts and enthusiasm put forth by Connie, Ed Ronen of the Village Club and their respective staffs. We look forward to their continued support again next year at our sixth annual outing on Oct. 6, 2003.
