"The Landmark on Main Street Gala, held Saturday, Nov. 9, at the newly renovated Jeanne Rimsky Theater, was a huge success, both artistically and financially," announced Gala Chairperson Dolores Ilardo. The near-capacity audience was thrilled by the electrifying performance of international songstress Maureen McGovern, ably accompanied on Landmark's Steinway concert grand piano by Jeffrey Harris.
Ms. McGovern's program was a thoroughly entertaining mix of "standards" from the Great American Songbook, by Rodgers & Hart, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Cole Porter and Gershwin, interspersed with many novelty songs, all delivered with verve in Ms. McGovern's impeccable style. The overall effect was to magically transform the Jeanne Rimsky Theater into an elegant Manhattan cabaret for a few joyous hours. After the performance Ms. McGovern mixed with the audience while a sumptuous desert buffet was served from the stage.
Honoree Horace Hagedorn was present with his wife Amy and a large family contingent, to receive Landmark's accolades for his lifetime commitment to philanthrophy and community development. Mr. Hagedorn spoke briefly about how much he has enjoyed living in Port Washington for the last four decades, and how happy he was to be able to share his successes with other less fortunate throughout this continuing philanthrophic efforts.
"This was one of Landmark's finest hours," observed Ms. Ilardo, "in which, through the efforts of our staff and many dedicated volunteers, a tremendously entertaining program was produced, and at the same time, funds were raised to subsidize Landmark's ongoing cultural activities."
