The holiday season is upon us, and so is Port winter sports. The unheralded bowling team is ready to make a big splash this winter as well. With a tough season last year, the boys are upbeat about what is to come this year. "Our team on whole made vast improvements and we have guys who will help us win," said Aron Frey, varsity player for the team. Coached by Schreiber Technology teacher Mr. Costello, the team is looking very sharp. With an opening loss to Roslyn last week, by a score of three games to zero, the squad came back strong. They won their next game against Oyster Bay handily and now look ahead to games against Locust Valley and Great Neck. With star players J.M. Kostallas, Dan Keene, Tom Schweitzer and Aron Frey, the team is ready to make a charge for the division after a tough rebuilding year last season. Practice takes place Monday through Wednesday during the week at Herrill Lanes in Herricks. The team is ready to make their mark with many underclassmen playing junior varsity. With four people on varsity and four people on junior varsity, it is not easy to just walk on to the team. Tryouts were tough and many good players were not taken because there just wasn't enough room. Only time will tell how the season will go, but it sure is shaping up to be an enjoyable one for the team anyway you look at it.
