Let me start by saying I was born and raised in Port Washington as was my mother. I have never written a letter to the Port News, but I have never been so angry before to write a response.
This letter is addressed to Tom Bluni and Marc Silverstein. I was appalled and there aren't enough words to describe my anger regarding your letters about our fire alert system.
I am a wife of a firefighter, my son, my daughter's boyfriend, my brother-in-law and nephew are all firefighters and my brother was a firefighter. I could go on and on because all our friends are in the fire department.
My children were born and raised around the corner from the fire horn and it never bothered them. I cannot believe that at this time when the whole world has commended firefighters and fire departments for anything and everything they do, we have people in our town complaining over a fire horn that could some day save their family's lives! Please don't forget Mr. Bluni and Mr. Silverstein, these firefighters are awakened, with their families in the middle of the night and don't even get paid!
If you don't like the system that our town has maybe you should find another town to live in, maybe New York City where the firefighters are paid and sleep in the firehouse.
