I was frankly appalled at Mr. Bluni's response to his critics on the siren issue.
In essence, he says we should emulate the NYFD on the issue of communications.
Did not the final report on the fall of the Twin Towers find the NYFD's communications to be a major contributing factor to the tremendous loss of life of the firefighters on that tragic day? Have we not read that their communications are not much improved since then?
Yet somehow, in his quest to sleep in and enjoy his slumber, Mr. Bluni proposes a solution that has been proven to cost lives of firefighting professionals and the civilians they were trying to save.
Mr. Bluni, if your sleep is more important than the lives of your neighbors and of the volunteer force that protects us, may I respectfully suggest earphones, or earplugs. Or, perhaps you should explore the opportunity to relocate to a town which isn't so selfishly robbing you of your precious nap time. I know several fine real estate agents here in Port who would be delighted to list your home, and I'm fairly certain there are a number of volunteers to aid in your packing efforts.
