Alan Rigby Wile, 91, a retired real estate broker, Naval Reserve Captain, and four-year resident of Bradenton, FL, died Oct. 30, 2002. Born in NYC on March 3, 1911, Mr. Wile was educated in public and private schools and later attended the University of Rochester and NYU. He was a member of Delta Phi Epsilon, a national Foreign Service fraternity. On completion of university work, he was immediately employed by W.R. Grace & Co., then a leader in the import/export field.
Mr. Wile received a direct commission to the US Naval Reserve in the spring of 1941 and served in the Office of Naval Intelligence during WWII and later in Korea.
A long time resident of Port Washington, Mr. Wile was a real estate broker with the Howard C. Hegeman Agency, Inc. and with the office of Robert L. Harding Jr. He was extremely active in numerous community programs, serving with distinction, which led to his being cited as Senior Citizen of the Year 1991 by the County of Nassau Dept. of Senior Citizen Affairs. The Port Washington Community Chest honored him for his volunteer work by naming him Citizen of the Year in 1990.
Mr. Wile was married to the former Edith (Patty) Platt Dalzell, who predeceased him in 1994. Their three children are Alan R. Jr., Sherwood and Edith. He leaves seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. In 1997, Mr. Wile married Dorothy Hicks Daves, the mother of Emily H. Daves and grandmother of Aviela Daves.
