I'm writing in support of Tom Bluni's proposal to explore alternatives to the current town fire-alarm system in a recent "letter to the editor."
Why did it take so long for me to respond? Because like many people in this town, with young families, I am very busy. And although many people and myself have been frustrated by being woken up, and/or having their young children woken up by this archaic alarm system, it took the impetus of Mr. Bluni's letter to get me to weigh in. It is for this same reason, that I find it ludicrous to have such an alarm system that potentially can deprive families with working parents (many of whom commuting to Manhattan) of their much needed rest.
Now of course if safety becomes an issue with some other system, I would not support it. But it's hard to believe that with today's technology that this would be the case. I believe the majority of people in this town would support a more modern and less intrusive alarm system - assuming of course it does not jeopardize the safety of their families.
