The Port Washington Police District Detective Division, in conjunction with the Nassau County Special Victim's Squad, has fully investigated an alleged rape that was reported to have occurred in the area of the Port Washington Weber Junior High School on Oct. 1. After a complete and thorough investigation, it has been determined that the alleged incident never occurred.
The community was understandably distressed with this premature report. The police district would like to stress that any reports given to the local newspapers are considered to be under investigation until all facts are fully researched.
Commissioner James B. Duncan stated, "It is important to recognize that the school district acted swiftly and responsibly toward these allegations. The Port Washington Police District would like to thank Dr. Geoffrey Gordon for his continued cooperation. It is cooperation such as this that helps maintain the high quality of life that our community enjoys. Our children's safety is our paramount concern."
