Cynthia W. Garvin, 67, died on Sept. 23, 2002 in Scituate, MA. She had worked for Catholic Charities and for many years at Coastal Community Counseling Center. A 1952 graduate of Port Washington High School, she attended the University of Vermont. She is a daughter of the late Lillian B. and William E. Wurtz, formerly of Port Washington and has made her home in Scituate for more than 30 years.

Mrs. Garvin was an accomplished musician and for many years she played the piano for the enjoyment of her family and friends. She was also known as an outstanding gourmet chef who read cookbooks the way other people read novels, and friends looked forward to the culinary gifts she delivered on the spur of the moment or on holidays.

Until 1975, she was active in the Boston Junior League where the chapter's project was working with abused children.

She is survived by her stepmother, Elizabeth Simon Wurtz of Southold; two sisters, Susan M. Roper of Hancock, NH, and Margaret E. Fisher of Brunswick, ME; one brother, William W. Wurtz of Cutchogue; five nieces and one nephew; and her very dear friends to whom she was devoted.

A memorial service was held Oct. 19 a the Sparrell McNamara Funeral Home in Cohasset and at Lighthouse Point, Scituate Harbor.

Ronald F. Basile, 34, died on Oct. 18, 2002. He is survived by his parents, Petrina and Giachinno Basile; his siblings, Laura Wootten and Reginald Basile and their respective families. He is also survived by his dear friend Ronald Jagger. Arrangements were made by the Austin F. Knowles Funeral Home, Port Washington. Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Peter of Alcantara RC Church. Interment private. Joseph G. Shabliskas, 90, of Port Washington, died on Oct. 25, 2002. Joseph was predeceased by his wife Beatrice (nee Ryback). He is survived by his daughter Elaine Tolle (Robert). Joseph was a proud member of VFW Post #1819. Arrangements were made by the Austin F. Knowles Funeral Home, Port Washington. Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Peter of Alcantara RC Church. Interment Northport Rural Cemetery.
