Perhaps the people of Port Washington would be pleased to know that one of their police commissioners is always on duty, 24-7, even at social events.

Strength of character and commitment to service is synonymous with the name, Jim Duncan, one of Port's finest police commissioners. However, to Paul Binger of Dix Hills, Jim gave new meaning to the word "friend."

While at an annual lobster bake at our home, Jim performed the Heimlich maneuver on my husband, Paul, who was turning blue as his windpipe was blocked off. Jim quickly and calmly reacted and performed the maneuver without hesitation. If it wasn't for Jim's calm, collected, no-nonsense manner, the scenario might have had a different ending!

Paul is quite lucky to have the police commissioner of Port Washington as his best friend, and Port Washington residents should be equally proud to have Jim as one of their police commissioners.

Nancy Binger
