PYA is happy to announce an expanded sports program for this fall. We will be adding some new baseball programs while continuing others that have been in place for years. The successful renovation of the "new" Lion's Field has enabled us to provide additional activities for the children of Port Washington. Applications will be sent home from your elementary schools during the first week of classes. They are also available at Arena Sports and Jimmy's Shoes.

Fall Baseball 2002: All activities will be held at Lion's Field.

K-2: We will continue to offer a development program on Saturdays from 1 - 2:45 p.m.

3rd and 4th Grades (Minor League): We will offer for the first time a Fall Intramural program. The number of applicants will determine the number of teams. This will be an excellent introduction for third graders, by having kids pitch and using a hardball for the first time. This will run on Saturdays from 3 - 4:45 p.m.

5th and 6th Grades (Major League): We will try to set an intramural program for these grades depending on the number of applications we receive. Those 7th graders who are 12 years old by Aug. 1, 2003 are eligible to participate in the program. This will run on Saturdays from 5 - 7 p.m. Times are subject to change due to Daylight Savings Time.

Fall travel teams for 10-12 year olds will be a continuation of our summer travel teams.

Baseball will run from Saturday, Sept. 14 through Oct. 26.

There will be an $85 registration fee for all intramural programs. Registration will be held at Lion's Field on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 3 - 6 p.m.

Football 2002:

PYA will continue to conduct a joint program with Manhasset PAL. Registration for all the following programs will be held at Munsey Park Field, Manhasset on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 10 a.m. - noon and Sunday, Sept. 8 from 2 - 4 p.m.

Developmental Ages 7 - 8: This is a flag football league that does not require regular football equipment. This program will provide exposure to all aspects of the fundamentals of the game and is designed especially for youngsters with little or no football experience. First practice will be held on Sunday, Sept. 15 at Munsey Park Field from 2 - 4 p.m. All games will be played beginning in October at Lion's Field. Registration fee is $85.

Midget Football: This will be the 40th year of our program and we believe that our safety record is equal or superior to those of other team sports programs. The game as taught, coached and supervised should not be associated with the violence that is seen at the college and professional levels. The league is divided into two divisions.

Junior Division Ages 9-10: This league requires full protective football equipment. Full equipment practices will begin on registration day, Saturday, Sept. 7 from 10 a.m. - noon and Sunday, Sept. 8 from 2 - 4 p.m., both at Munsey Park Field. Subsequent practices will be held at the same time and place. Games will begin in October at Lion's Field. Registration fee is $95.

Senior Division Ages 11-12: This league requires full protective football equipment. The first practices will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 10 a.m. - noon and Sunday, Sept. 15 from 2 - 4 p.m. both at the Town of North Hempstead Field at Bar Beach. All games will be held on Sundays beginning in October at Lion's Field. Registration fee is $95.

Equipment for junior and senior divisions can be purchased at Arena Sports Center or Manhasset Sports Center.

Please note: For those of you who have concerns or questions about your son's participation in this program, we encourage you to come down to registration/practice and meet with the coaches and program commissioners. Logo
