I have for the past 45 years happily bought flowers from Falconers, for both large and small family occasions, as well as to greet friends both near and far. And I surely plan to continue to do so. Just as Fred Falconer has, I too conscientiously patronize local non-profits and charities. (Although I do wish there was some place in Port to buy a pair of stockings - how I miss the old Rose Shop). I also have been buying and enjoying the wonderful farm fresh vegetables from Pat at the Bayles Garden Center.
However, ever since it opened a few weeks ago on the Town Dock, I have been going to the Farmer's Market which is open for just a few hours on Saturday mornings, surely not long enough to do damage to the Port Washington business community. We are lucky to have it here. It is a wonderful addition to our community while at the same time supports small family farms and agricultural enterprises on Long Island - a worthy endeavor. I think we as well as the larger Long Island community benefit from their presence among us. Try it on a beautiful summer morning and while buying some farm fresh salad greens enjoy a cup of organic coffee, perhaps with home made biscotti. I think that even as I do, you'll like it.
