Ella L. Lumi, a long-term resident of Port Washington from 1950 to 1996, died on July 31, 2002, at the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in Johnsbury, VT, after a brief illness. Born in Narva, Estonia in 1908, she and her family emigrated to the US n 1948 and resided on Highland Ave. until she moved to Vermont in 1996. She is survived by a son, Jaan Lumi of Seattle, WA; and her grandsons, Christopher and Michael of Port Washington and Jordan of Tacoma, WA; her daughter-in-law, Annikki Lumi of Wheelock, VT; grandson Thomas and spouse of Locust Valley; and granddaughter Krista and family of Jacksonville, FL. Her son, Rein Lumi, predeceased her in 2000. Interment is planned for late September at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, NY. Joseph Wisniewski, 84, of Port Washington since 1946, died on Aug. 3, 2002. He was predeceased by his wife Sophie. He is survived by his children, Barbara Farrell, Dolores Martin, Elaine Thompson and Deborah Wanna; his sister, Anne Kudrzycki; and eight grandchildren. Joseph was born in Greenvale on Sept. 20, 1917. He served in the Army from August 1941 to December 1945 (in New Guinea and the Philippines from 1943-1945). He retired from Carpenters Local Union #1397 of Roslyn, where he served as business manager. Joseph also served as the secretary and business manager of the NC District Council of Carpenters. A past commander of VFW Post #120 of Garden City Park, he served as a trustee of the Polish American Museum of Port Washington and was a charter member of the Port Washington Elks for 40 years. Arrangements were made by the Austin F. Knowles Funeral Home, Port Washington. Mass of Christian Burial celebrated on Aug. 7 at St. Peter of Alcantara RC Church. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery. Elizabeth DiLeo, 91, of Port Washington, died on Aug. 8, 2002. Mother of John (Margie) DiLeo, Sr. Marian (Guilio) D'Aversa and Jeanne Farley. Grandmother of six. Great-grandmother of five. Arrangements were made by the Austin F. Knowles Funeral Home, Port Washington. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Fatima RC Church. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery. Logo
